The Tea Ceremony Club

I thought I'd stick up some photos of the tea ceremony club for your enjoyment. I go to tea ceremony club every Thursday, and it's definitely one of the highlights of the week. Well, let's face it, who doesn't enjoy sitting around drinking tea and eating sweets?

Loads of people ask me what tea ceremonies involve, and I have difficulty trying to explain it. Basically it's a way of making tea and socialising, but every single movement that's performed in the ceremony must be done in a certain way. When it's performed correctly it's a sublime display of grace and posture. When I do it it looks like a chimp's tea party. Still, I'm getting better, though I still get my cha-sen mixed up with my cha-wan.

You may have noticed from the photos that I'm the only male member of the tea club, and before you ask, boys can do tea ceremony too. In one of the photos you can see me holding a red cloth - this cloth is part of the ceremony and usually hangs from your waist. Normally, men carry purple cloths, married women carry yellow cloths and unmarried women carry red cloths. Unfortunately the club only has red cloths at the moment, so for now I'm an unmarried woman. Ah well, there are worse things to be I suppose...
