It was a real treat to go for a wander on the grass in the Imperial Plaza next to Tokyo station. Grass is a difficult thing to come by in Japan, though I'm still not sure exactly why that is - ideas anyone?

You answered your own question a while back didn't you? No one has a garden because all available non-builded space must be filled with a paddy field? Presumably a paddy field would be a little out of place in the middle of Tokyo and you couldn't possibly put a building on Every Single Damn Square Inch Of Land in the city. Hence, logically, grass.

also japanese grass has the texture of pins making it not worth putting down for the sake of having somewhere comfortable to sit...
